A month in the life
It’s been a month now and we finally got to the point of the moving process where we no longer take daily trips to Costco, Bed Bath and Beyond or The Container Store. We have hung some decorations and look forward to purchasing some new pieces. Books and DVD’s have found their homes and every single box is unpacked with the items placed in their appropriate spot. We genuinely wondered when that day would come.
The finalizing of the home-creation has allowed us some time to explore our new city. We walk or take public transportation everywhere- grocery store, gym, bars, restaurants, downtown, the homes of friends. It has been such a freeing experiment to leave the car parked for days and days at a time until street sweeping and the fear of a ticket forces a move. The weather has been so amazing with a warm sun and a cool breeze making exploration pleasant. I’ve actually said a few times that I’m getting anxious to bust out my new coats and boots purchased specifically for the brutal San Francisco winters. (Okay, brutal is beyond exaggeration, but hey, I’m an LA girl.)
A few times a week, we pick a new direction to walk in and we love how each neighborhood has it’s own unique vibe, independent restaurants, funky bars and residents. Here are a few images—

The city views sits right behind the famous ‘Painted Sisters’ you’ve seen on the opening credits of Full House and in movies, etc. Victorian and Edwardian style homes that are prevalent in San Francisco are also called painted ladies for the bold colors and intricate ornaments and details inside and out. We live near Alamo Square Park which has some of the best views in the city and is a frequent stop by tour buses. We’ve actually watched as tourist take pictures of our building and inadvertently, us folding laundry. This must be what it’s like to be followed by the paparazzi.

Me and the mister enjoying the sunny Saturday.

This is from the top of one of the numerous hills in the city. We climbed through a few neighborhoods to the top of Noe Valley and you can see the water on both to the West and East. SF is so densely populated and the houses are packed into every crevice. However, there is tons and tons of green space. We live within a mile of several small and large parks.

Out for a walk and, on a separate day, at a local drinking hole.

We are loving the new city and are the job hunts are coming along with interviews and we have had the chance to spend time with friends. The other day we realized that it would be a very, very difficult decision to move back to the sprawling, smoggy, hot, car obsessed city of Los Angeles. But you never can tell… Just a short year ago, there was no way we could have guessed we would make a bold move north.
